My fiancée and I have chosen our wedding venue but we are trying to decide on a date. The options are the last weekend in March or the first weekend in May. The March weekend is considerably cheaper than the May weekend. The venue is an old Georgian house in Devon which is decorated in rich colours including pinks and reds and with lots of wood panelling and antique furniture.

My concern is that the flowers that spring flowers in March will not be bold enough to make an impact in this setting. Can you suggest any flowers for the venue that might be appropriate?

Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer.

tulips would work very well a really lovely bright red in a hand tie would look great and tulips used at the reception would bring the spring theme in there too.
or anemone there is a red one called 'marrianne red' used with greenery gives a very natural but a bit different look.
if you prefer to go pink just change the tulips to pink and maybe substitute pink gerbera also you could then use hyacinth to give a beautiful scent.
there is the option of just having white/cream very classic you then have lots of choice tulip, hyacinth, anemone, veronica, narcissus, ranuncula, dill flower maybe even white lilac.
there are some lovely venues in devon and if you decide on march the spring flowers will give a seasonal look and can still give colour as well.
hope this helps.

It sounds as though the venue you have chosen is quite well decorated to give you the colouring. I would personally suggest using white or cream flowers and a mix of foliage to create a very wedding scheme that would work with your venue. We doa lot of very dark wood panelled rooms around the Cambridge colleges and a light and bright scheme really does work well.

Cassie has probably suggested the best flowers for the scheme, but one word of warning. In March flower prices do increase due to the demand around mothers day, so bear this in mind.
